REVIEW: Real Techniques Kabuki Brush

Real Technique make-up brushes have transformed how I use make-up, I've repurchased the Core Collection a number of times as it's such a great set for the basics - foundation, blusher, eye/ lip / brow detail.  I've got a fair few of the other Real Technique brushes, the Expert Face Brush and the Start Set I've already reviewed in this blog but I'm sure the others will all be popping up on here at some point - let me know in the comments below if you would like see more on my full collection.

To be honest with you I bought the Real Techniques Kabuki Brush on a bit of whim, my regular kabuki was getting a bit tired and I liked the idea of the unfolding mechanism which gives the brush a two in one feel and also appealed to me in terms of cleaning and hygiene.  Like all Real Technique brushes the kabuki is super soft and the synthetic bristles are seriously easy to clean.

I've found that I don't use the kabuki brush closed so much, the slanted bristles are great but the handle is a little small and quite awkward, I've a number of brushes that just that bit better for powder and also blusher.  However I do use the brush opened up regularly, for that extra definition when contouring, the finish and precision is really great but again the application just the little awkward when open with double the length of bristles.

I love the idea behind the brush and I'll continue to use it, but in practice it doesn't live up to the bar set by the other brushes I've tried in the Real Techniques series.  Have you tried this brush?  What do you think of it - let me know in the comments below!

  1. This looks like a good idea, but I'm not sure if I really like the fact that it opens and closes. I've still yet to try any RT brushes, but don't think I'll be picking this up as my first.
