Pregnant in Dubrovnik

How many come back posts am I going to post on this blog?!  I'm hoping that this will be the last!

My last post was in October 2014, and in a lot of ways it feels like a lifetime ago.  As you will have guessed from the picture, and if you follow me on instagram, you will know that everything has changed for me in the last 18 months... I'm now a mummy!  This picture was taken in May 2015, when I was around 5 months pregnant with my wonderful little boy Lucas.  (Seeing this pregnant picture of me up on my blog makes me a little sad that I didn't blog throughout my pregnancy, those posts would have been amazing for me to look back on.  At least I can be thankful for instagram!)

Lucas is now a happy, lively 7 month old and an absolute joy to be around.  I plan to post a lot more on a Charlotte's Collection so I'm sure you'll see a lot of him on here, but for now I wanted to say 'hey' and give a little run down of what I've been up to in the last 18 months... wow, now for me to think back, which can be difficult with constant baby brain!

January 2015
I visited my new born nephew in Malta, though I didn't know I had a teeny tiny little Lucas in my tummy  - it was a good job that I had given up alcohol!

March 2015
Our first scan, Lucas even looked cute as a 12 week old fetus!

May 2015
My grandad passed away.  This was a really sad time for me for obvious reasons, we had a lot of bereavement in the family in the weeks up until my grandad's passing and this came as a complete shock.  It makes me sad every time I think that they won't ever meet, they're both such characters and I see so many of my grandad's expressions in Lucas that it would have been great to see them together!

In may we also went on a much need 'baby moon' to Dubrovnik, Croatia.  The weather was amazing and Chris and I were so busy at work and had been through so much that it was just what we needed to relax before the crazy busy coming months!

June 2015
A 29 week pregnant me attended Glastonbury Festival!  It was an experience... I've been to the festival before so I didn't think anything to going whilst pregnant, we had a great time but it was way more tiring than I expected.  For those that have never been before, Glastonbury is massive!  You do smooch walking just to get from one stage to another that I was ready for bed by 10pm each night!... especially since I wasn't able to drink any alcohol to keep me going!!  Luckily blow up mattresses are pretty comfy when you're pregnant so sleeping in a tent wasn't a big deal!

As we set off to Glastonbury for the weekend builders moved into our house to start our kitchen rennovations!  We knocked through our kitchen and dining room while opening up existing extension ceiling at the same time for extra height and added velux windows.  It was more than work than you'd expect due to supporting walls and the existing extension so I was pleased to be enjoying a festival while all the really messy work was underway!

July 2015
This month was a blur of builders dust, living without a kitchen and DIY!  We had a lot of help from family but Chris did a lot of the work himself including laying a solid wood floor and fitting the quite bespoke kitchen that we designed!

August 2015
Hello maternity leave. I was getting pretty big by the end of August when I was due to finish work, it was summer, work was hectic (2015 was one of the most stressful years I'd experienced at my company, not exactly what I needed given that I was pregnant!) so I was very much ready to start my maternity leave and finally start preparing for the baby!

September 2015
Lucas arrived on September 2015 by emergency c-section, 11 days late!  I went into labour naturally but he was back to back which meant he wasn't in the right position to come out unassisted... if I can muster up the courage I think I'll write about my labour and delivery story on here!

December 2015
Lucas' First Christmas!

January 2016
I'd been exclusively breastfeeding Lucas but towards the end of December this became a real struggle. January was a really pivotal month on our breastfeeding journey, Lucas had a posterior tongue tie divided, he was nearly 4 months old so it had gone undiagnosed for a long time, and by February I'd started feeding him with a combination of breastfeeding and formula.  Feeding your baby is such an important topic and I feel like we went through nearly everything imaginable on our journey where I'd hoped, but been unable to, breastfeed exclusively.  However I'm still breastfeeding Lucas today, something that I'm really proud of and didn't expect to be doing back in January.  I learnt  so much that I think it deserves a blog post all of it's own.  Watch this space!

February 2016
I turned 30!  I still can't believe that my twenties are over, but I was lucky to have welcomed in my thirties with plenty of celebrations.  I was treated to plenty of lunches and afternoon tea with the ladies of my family.  We had a night without the baby as we hosted a party that went on about 5 hours past my new bedtime (of 9pm!) and I visited Edinburgh with my boys - our first time travelling with Lucas.

March 2016
My first Mother's Day, we enjoyed snow topped hills on a lovely walk in the Yorkshire Dales.  Bliss.

April 2016
Lucas' first trip abroad.  We've just got back from visiting Chris' parents in Normandy.  Lucas loved spending time with his grandparents and we had a wonderful break in a part of France that we're lucky enough to now know really well.  Lucas did so well on the long car and ferry journeys that it's made me a lot more relaxed about our up coming trip to Malta to visit my family!

Well that was an update an a half!  Thanks for sticking with me if you read this post to the end... and for just reading it at all after the long break I took from blogging!

Primark Mickey Mouse Jumper  |  Zara Coat  |  Primark Pumps

We took these photos on a recent trip to Normandy, France.  At the time I had no intention in using them for a blog post but I just loved seeing Mickey's smiley face I couldn't resist sharing them!  Please do ignore my moody face though, I actually wasn't feeling very well!

This beach at Barneville-Carteret has featured on my blog a few times (check out these posts for past outfits captured here).  This time we visited at the end of September, on the whole the weather was still lovely and sunny, but a hint of Autumn was starting to come through in the chilly coastal breeze.  Jeans, this light weight Mickey Mouse jumper from Primark and my trusty Zara coat from a few seasons ago were all I needed to keep warm!  I love how light -hearted this jumper is, I think I like wearing it so much as it's the only 'novalty' item of clothing I have in my wardrobe!

Christmas Haul TK Maxx HomeSense Decorations
Buying Christmas  goodies in October (the beginning of October no less!) must be an absolute first for me!  Really, it's only been the last two years or so that I've genuinely been excited for Christmas - I think it may be a combination of having my lovely little niece visit at that time of year and a new house that I'm really excited to decorate!  We all love having a rummage around TK Maxx right?  Well I did a bit of that in the Christmas section at the weekend.  Yep, totally bypassing the Halloween section I picked up a fair few bits - impromptu Christmas Haul!

I picked up the Bahoma set of two Noel Noel scented Candles (£9.99) first of all, I love Christmas scents!  Label anything as 'Christmas spiced' and I'm sold.  The Noel Noel candles are tangerine, nutmeg, berry, fir needle and cinnamon scented.  I'm waiting until it gets that bit closer to Christmas before burning them, but these still smell amazing!  Actually I blame these candles for getting me in the Christmas spirit!!

I spotted the set of 4 'Cherish The Season' tree decorations (£3.99) thinking the cute little ceramic acorns and pinecones would fit in perfectly with the simple white theme (with a hint of red) I went for last year, which I loved and had already planned to continue with in 2014.  The white ceramic Reindeer head (£4.99) has the same chalky feel as the tree decorations.  It's the subtlety of this as a Christmas decoration that I really like!  Stag heads and antlers have been popular in home decorating for quite a while now, so what better to have around at Christmas times?  This may end up on my mantlepiece a bit earlier than what's socially acceptable for Christmas decorations!

Finally I picked up what must be everyone's (right?!) must have purchase for around the Christmas period (well, towards the end of the year anyway).  A new diary!  I've only ever seen the 'In Tempo Firenze' diaries in TK Maxx, but I've picked up a few notebooks and journals from this brand in TK Maxx before and have found the quality to be really great for the price - this rather large, real leather diary was only £5.99.  Predominantly in Italian (hey ho, I'm an italophile and can understand the basics!)  this page a day 2015 diary has all the sections you could want, I can't wait to start filling it with notes and appointments!!

Let me know if I'm crazy to have started picking up Christmas bits and bobs already!!

Streets and Balconies of Valletta. River Island Dress. Travel and Fashion Blogger

For me, visiting Malta always just takes place as part of a day trip.  When I visit the islands I stay on the smaller sister Island of Gozo, my first love of the Mediterranean islands.  I still love Malta and always come away thinking I should spend more than just one day a year there!

This summer we decided to give our favourite locations of Sliema, St Julian's and Mdina a miss for the chance to visit some new places (for us) on the main island of Malta.  After getting off the ferry at Cirkewwa we drove to the 5,500 year old temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, taking just a quick detour to the stunning Dingli Cliffs to catch a glimpse of the uninhabited island of Filfla.  My beloved Gozo is actually home to some of the most intact of Malta's Megalthic Temples, which are all older the Pyramids in Egypt and Britains Stonehenge, however the stunning coastal location and visitor centre attached to the temples in Malta makes these well worth a visit!

Ready for lunch we left the Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples desperate to get out of the hot sun.  We have always photographed the three cities of Vittoriosa (Birgu), Senglea and Cospicua from the Valletta side of the Grand Harbour (at the beautiful Upper Barrakka Gardens - a must to visit).  There has been a lot of regeneration in these ancient Maritime cities, so instead of our usual pitstop at the Valletta Waterfront we decided to give the Birgu Waterfront a go for lunch.  I'd really recommend the waterfront's Tate restaurant.  Putting the wonderful yacht views aside, it has a large and varied menu, the food was great with generous portions - but the surprise for me was that the whole menu was vegetarian!  Malta does cater well for vegetarians in general, but  it's quite rare to stumble across a purely vegetarian restaurant!  Yep, I was beyond pleased with this find.

Before leaving Birgu we made a quick stop off at the Inquisitor's Palace, one of the few worldwide to survive both the passing of time and revolts against the Catholic church in the centuries past.  The history on Malta is incredible and with everything from decorative original features, a prison complex and torture chamber, the Inquisitor's Palace certainly has plenty of the history the island is renowned for!

You can't spend time on Malta without visiting the famous and beautiful fortified capital city of Valletta.  We called inside the city walls for a spot of shopping, for a wonder wound to catch up on all the restorations that have taken place in the last year or so, but also just to grab a coffee or two!  I love that Valletta is compact enough to walk round leisurely in an afternoon - if that's all the time you have.  I'm simply happy aimlessly wondering the grid system of streets, enjoying the amazing architecture of the palazzos, churches, palaces, and even the backstreets are quite wonderful - filled with a myriad of my favourite colourful balconies.  However if you happen to be visiting for the first time, be sure to visit the St John's Cathedral and it's Caravaggio paintings, the Grand Master's Palace, Upper Barrakka Gardens and the bustling Waterfront.

If you've ever visited Malta, let me know your favourite things to do and visit.  If you have any questions about the islands of Malta and Gozo please do get in touch!!

Gozo Cliffs Xlendi Walks Travel BloggerTravel Blogger
If you check out the Travel tag of this blog you'll see see that I go to Gozo and Malta quite a lot.  After being home a month I thought it was about time I share a few pictures from my latest trip.  In an attempt to give you a quick tour of these sunny islands that I love so much I'm going to split my holiday pictures over a few posts, a mini series of Gozo and Malta in 2014!

When we visit this little Mediterranean spot we always stay on the small island of Gozo, a lot more quiet, agricultural and relaxed than Malta.  Gozo doesn't have the package holiday resorts Malta is known for, and instead is known for it's mixture of cultures, bird watching and walks, the ecoGozo project aims for Gozo to become an eco-island by 2020.

We like to go for lots of morning walks when we're visiting, particularly along the cliffs at the south of the island.  Walking from Sannat to the beautiful Xlendi Bay, where its the perfect place to stop for a drink, the light white cliffs of Saguna and Sanap are a breathtaking contrast with the mediterranean sea below.

Right now Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are in Gozo filming 'By The Sea', a film which is set to be a romantic drama written and directed by Angelina Jolie.  It's pretty exciting times for the island, it's especially exciting when I'm hearing that friends and family have caught a glimpse, or even spoken to the stars themselves!!

We walked along the Ta' Cenc cliffs ending up at Il-Kantra lido.  Along the route you get the most amazing views with the citadel at Victoria and dome at Xewkija one side and the sea on the other.  Once at the beautifully sheltered natural lido it's just a short drop down the hill to the bay of Mgarr-Ix-Xini, it's here where Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are filming, you can see in the pictures two of the sets mid construction for the filming that's starting around now - one rather large 'hotel' on the cliff, and a bar / tavern in the bay.

Mgarr-Ix-Xini bay is now closed to the public for the duration of the production, but luckily it was still open for the first week of my stay on Gozo.  It's one of my favourite places to swim on the island, the beautiful curved inlet is sheltered with a small but neat little beach.  I can 100% see why the Jolie-Pitts chose it for their location, and to say I'm excited to see the film is a massive understatement!

So you made it all the way to the text in this incredibly photo heavy post!  Well done!  And sorry the photos aren't the best... all taken on the iPhone!

In June I spent a week in Northumberland to celebrate the marriage of two wonderful friends.  The week was full of lots of fun, food, laughter, day trips to local landmarks, wedding preparations and finally post wedding wind downs!

We stayed the week in Seahouses, on the coast by the Farne Islands.  Seahouses was the perfect spot for our day trips out to the pretty town of Alnwick, the historical Bamburgh Castle and impressive Lindisfarne Castle, but of course very close to the fabulous Newton Hall - the venue on the special day!

Just have a think about one of the most fun places you could ever eat, well Alnwick Castle has a restaurant in the biggest treehouse you've ever seen!  And the food was pretty good too!... Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.  We had so much fun on the beach at Bamburgh, which has to be one of the prettiest beaches in the UK, the sand dunes are just incredible - though I did ruin my little Primark pumps wondering over them!  Oh well, it's good job those shoes were cheap!  I have to say the Holy Island was a bit like a retirement centre, but a pretty one at least!  The views to and from Lindisfarne are just stunning!

My friends wedding was amazing, she looked a-ma-zing, and the venue was amazing.  Everyone had so much fun!  I wore a little skirt and top combo from Warehouse, but I don't think it's in stores anymore.  Sorry!  After the wedding, once we'd recovered from our hangovers - with the aid of curry, a few of us went on a boat trip over to the Farne Islands (Staple Island - I think).  What an experience!  It was nesting season so we spent the whole trip running from extremely violent, dive-bombing birds!  But we didn't stop laughing the whole time - and even managed to pop a bottle of bubbly on the boat to celebrate a wonderful wedding and wonderful week!

If you know the area, do let me know your experience of Northumberland in the comment section below.  I would love to hear any stories or trips you've made there!
